CORE Health Care Give Heads Up to Dripping Springs Coaches

On February 19th, CORE Health Care distributed concussion awareness packets to all the Dripping Springs Middle & High School Coaches.  Middle School Boys Athletic Coordinator, Coach Lewis Jenkins and High School Athletic Chairmen, Coaches Millie Hogg and Greg Dydalewicz served as representatives for the distribution and expressed their appreciation of the valuable educational information and plan to schedule future presentations from CORE's clinical team for their students.                                    

Concussions result from a blow to the head that causes the brain to slam against the inner wall of the skull. Bleeding or tearing of the nerve fibers causes symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, confusion, loss of consciousness and amnesia. Even what seems to be a mild bump or blow to the head can be serious. As many as 3.8 million sports- and recreation-related concussions are estimated to occur in the United States each year. To protect young athletes from serious injury, researchers recommend educational programs, improved protective equipment and better enforcement of rules.

To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) developed the Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions, a type of traumatic brain injury, to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports. The Heads Up initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion.
