It has been well-documented that the vast majority of patients entering a post-acute rehabilitation program, besides dealing with trauma-related physical impairments, also suffer from significant physical deconditioning. This lack of physical fitness is likely to slow a patient’s response to rehabilitative treatment and, if left unaddressed, can actually cause further declines in their functioning.

In response to this information, CORE Health Care has added additional physical fitness programming to each patient’s schedule. Supervised by licensed physical therapists, these additional activities are designed to improve an individual’s aerobic capacity and cardiovascular status. Ultimately, this improved fitness helps the rehabilitative patient to maintain greater energy reserves, decreases the risk or severity of post-traumatic depression and allows for substantive improvement in cognitive areas such as memory and executive functioning.
