Traditionally, rehabilitation of memory impairment has focused on external strategies, such as use of a daily planner, note-taking, audio-recorded reminders, etc. Although these external strategies are important and necessary, they do not serve to improve an individual’s intrinsic memory functioning per se.
Rehabilitation of memory at CORE now includes intensive instruction and practice of internal memory strategies. This intervention is based on recent empirical work in this area with neurologically compromised individuals. This program is designed to allow therapy to continue to be delivered by family members after the individual is discharged, allowing for maximized neuroplastic outcomes.
The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accreditation has been awarded to CORE Health Care for the Residential Rehabilitation Brain Injury Programs for Adults.
