CORE groundsCORE Health Care provides long term care for a variety of special needs in a homelike setting. The long-term residential program, Cedar Point, offers individualized professional staff services and programming designed to treat individuals with prolonged, difficult-to-treat, and often complex psychiatric and developmental disabilities. The typical resident has experienced numerous hospitalizations, is unable to live independently and is in need of long term care. Individuals with mild to moderate behavioral problems are accepted based on assessments. The length of stay can vary from one year to life-long care with an emphasis on safety, community access and overall quality of life.

Cedar Point is designed to maximize each person’s quality of life by developing leisure, social and vocational pursuits that the individual finds meaningful and consistent with their life goals. The safe and home-like long term care environment at Cedar Point encourages each resident to achieve higher self-esteem and greater personal growth. Program participants must be medically stable and age 16 or older.

CORE recreation facilitiesSince a mental illness can impact every area of a person’s life, specific treatment strategies have been designed to meet the needs of all the following: physical, cognitive, behavioral, spiritual and psychological functioning, as well as family issues. Licensed professional staff are able to provide psychological testing and therapy that can help prevent severe episodes and costly re-hospitalization.

Mental illness takes many forms and may affect up to 20 percent of our country’s population. It involves not only the individual but the individual’s family. For some, mental illness is a life-long struggle for peace of mind and security.

Specific emphasis is given to a non-punitive approach, because for some, mental illness is a life-long struggle for peace of mind and security. Therapies available in the long term care program include physical therapy, cognitive re-training and speech therapy, occupational therapy, individual psychotherapy, vocation and job placement services. Art therapy, as well as a recreation therapists and therapeutic animal care, are also available each day for our residents.
